Introduction to DIY and Woodworking for LGBT+ (July-Aug 2026)
Course Description
Make friends, while making furniture!
Meet other LGBT+ people while learning some new skills.
Over 8 weeks learn how to hang a shelf, make a lamp and make a stool!
By the end of the course you will be able to:
Use power tools and workshop machinery safely
Book into the Leith Community Workshop as an Edinburgh Tool Library Member
Create in ways that minimises your impact on the environment
Use practical skills help local communities and the natural environment

What to expect
🏳️⚧️ It’s especially run for the LGBT community (16+) only. We welcome all trans and non-binary identities, including gender non-confirming.
🏳️🌈 This group is LGBT+ facilitated and delivered in partnership with LGBT Health and Wellbeing of the Making With Pride' Programme.
🎟️ There will be 10 spaces available each week.
⭐️ You will be taught by trained, professional crafts people
🐢 This is a beginners class and will be taught at an appropriate speed
💬 You will have plenty opportunity to get to know your class mates.
🪵 We will provide all materials
🥽 We have PPE (mask, ear defenders, safety glasses) for all attendees but we recommend you to bring your own if you have them.
🛠️ You will have access to a wide range of large-format woodworking tools, hand tools, power tools and a workbench space.

Always ask if you are unsure of anything.
Follow any instructions to use machines safely
Wear PPE provided
Tie long hair back, do not wear loose clothing or jewellery

Barriers to Access
Currently, our main entrance and toilet are not wheelchair accessible due to a steep ramp and narrow doors and turning spaces.If there is anything you need to talk to us about in advance to help you access the event please email michelle@lgbthealth.org.uk or phone 0131 564 3970.
We aim to make our workshop wheelchair accessible workshop by the end of 2026.
