This session will explore different options for undertaking a PhD in the social sciences and humanities.

The RMIT Library will present on different thesis models, including thesis with publication, thesis with project, and working with industry partners.

Associate Professor Juliet Watson will then host a panel discussion with supervisors and PhD candidates from the School of Global Urban and Social Studies and the School of Media and Communication.

Refreshments will be provided during the workshop.

Speakers

Sophie Langley

Sophie is a Research Academic Skills Advisor (ASA) with the RMIT Library. Research ASAs offer one-on-one and workshop support for HDR candidates to improve their academic writing skills for their thesis, candidature milestones, journal articles and other writing.

Professor Hannah Badland

Hannah is Director of the Social Equity Research Centre and an Australian Research Council Future Fellow. She is an experienced supervisor of candidates undertaking PhDs with publication.

Dr Kathryn Daley

Kathryn is Associate Director of the Social Equity Research Centre where she co-leads the Homelessness and Housing Insecurity research theme. She is also a Senior Lecturer in Youth Work and Youth Studies. She has supervised a thesis with project for the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies.

Betty Haralambous

Betty commenced a PhD with publication in 2022 to consolidate her research career and contribute to social work field education. The title of her PhD is ‘An investigation of collaborative multisector field education practices implemented by social work programs’.

Jasmine Aslan

Jasmine is a PhD candidate in the School of Media and Communication. Her project involves industry collaboration with ACMI.
