Doing Density Well Pubtalk and FRA AGM
Description
This year’s guest speaker for our FRA AGM will be Dr Jacquie Alexander. Jacquie is a young architect and senior lecturer at Monash University who has been investigating housing supply in an institutional, economic and governance context rather than an isolated architectural problem. FRA has argued consistently that housing supply is not primarily a planning problem but a deeper failure of the market requiring a broad range of solutions.
Jacquie’s work started by looking at land available in the City of Yarra that was not part of the speculative market. In other words, land held by institutions with a social rather than financial objectives. It later expanded to include inner Melbourne. She argues this non-speculative land can make an important contribution to social housing needs with the right coordination and providing that once this land is made available for affordable housing, it can be preserved for this purpose for the long-term
FRA will also present out comparison of policies offered by the different parties on important issues for our community.
The Annual General Meeting will include a report on FRA activities, financial report and election for committee members.
