    Doing Design Differently:
Gut Check Workshop with George Aye

Have you ever wrapped up a project and swore you’d never go through something like that again? But then find yourself saying, ‘yes,’ begrudgingly, to something similar just a few months later?

What if you could say, ‘Hell no!’ without all the anxiety that usually comes with it? What if you could turn down opportunities with the confidence that your rationale was justified? What if saying ‘no’ led to a new understanding of yourself and your boundaries and opened up new opportunities?

This interactive workshop is for designers and leaders who want to make wise decisions about their careers and projects. Identify your power and build up your confidence to be the best judge of your boundaries. By the end of the session, you’ll start to develop your own ‘Gut Check’ questions to protect yourself and others from future harm.

Through facilitated discussions and exercises, we’ll give space to speak to our shared fears of reputational damage, co-optation, judgement, and retaliation. We’ll also see examples from Greater Good Studio of when they said ‘No’ and what happened next.

Each participant will come out of the workshop with a clear framework for picking opportunities and shaping projects to align with their core values, as well as a script of questions that you can use to get the key information you need to make wise decisions.

    About the facilitator:

George Aye co-founded Greater Good Studio to use design to heal, to be just, to be restorative. After seven years at a global innovation firm, he was hired as the first human-centred designer at the Chicago Transit Authority. Since founding Greater Good, he guides clients and teams through complex projects that honour reality, create ownership, and build power.
Greater Good have been using their own Gut Check (now on V6.0) as an integral part of practice for twelve years.
