The Centre for Migrant and Refugee Health (CMRH) is a Victorian-based public health charity organisation dedicated to improving the health, wellbeing, and social inclusion of migrants, refugees, and people seeking asylum. Guided by a biopsychosocial model, CMRH recognises that mental health is shaped not only by individual experience but by broader social, cultural, and economic conditions.

CMRH works to address the social determinants of health, such as housing, employment, education, food security, discrimination, and access to services, that disproportionately affect newly arrived and culturally diverse communities. Through interprofessional practice, community partnerships, education, and research, CMRH delivers programs that promote resilience, dignity, and equitable access to care. The organisation advocates for systems that uphold human rights and ensure that mental health is treated as a matter of social justice.

About the Social Justice Awards 2026

The Social Justice Awards, established by CMRH in 2023, is an annual initiative that celebrates outstanding leadership and achievement in advancing equity, human rights, and social justice for migrants and refugees in Australia. The Awards recognise individuals and organisations whose work addresses systemic inequalities and drives meaningful change across areas such as housing, employment, education, youth justice, access to healthcare, racism, and discrimination.

The 2026 Social Justice Awards, to be held on 20 February 2026, continue this tradition of honouring excellence, innovation, and community impact. The event highlights the vital connection between mental health and social justice, affirming that when social conditions improve, wellbeing improves. By celebrating leaders who champion fairness and inclusion, CMRH reinforces its commitment to building a more just, healthy, and equitable society for all.
