Event description

Back by popular demand from QATACON25, Donna Davis is presenting a workshop at Hervey Bay Regional Gallery in collaboration with QATA.

Donna Davis’s work tells stories that examine ecological systems through a creative lens, exploring imagined futures and constructing new ways of seeing complex natural systems and our role within them. She is a multi-disciplinary artist who plays between science fact and science fiction, often embedded within long-term, deeply engaged ecological research projects that inspire her practice. Cross-disciplinary collaborations are key to her practice. Her work is grounded in science, however it is resolved in speculative ways to contemplate the existential threat of the climate crisis.

Workshop Outline: Hidden Worlds: using microscopes to inspire art + science

This workshop will inspire new and different ways to engage students across visual arts and science disciplines with approaches relating to environmental conservation. During the workshop you will use magnifying apps to learn about the hidden micro world of plants; then explore how we can artistically re-present the micro imagery in curious and engaging ways. This workshop is appropriate for both High and Primary School Teachers.

What to bring:

Apple iphone or iPAD with Magnifier app (usually default in Utilities)

Notebook or sketchbook, pen/pencil, apron, closed-in shoes

Refreshments:

Tea, coffee, biscuits - will be provided

Please note:

Hervey Bay Regional Gallery is conducting a free Panel Discussion on Career Pathways in the Arts - Pursuing  a Creative Practice in Arts' prior to the workshop at 10:30 am. The panel will feature Donna Davis and other speakers from the artis community and the discussion will be aimed at teachers, senior students, parents and anyone interested in a career in the arts - all workshop attendees are invited to attend the panel discussion and Q and A session.
