Doris ‘Birthday Cards’ Tour @ The Lord Gladstone ft. At Arm’s Length, Ricky’s Breath
Event description
HIJINX ALLEY presents the Eora leg of Awabakal powerhouse Doris’ debut EP tour.
Formed in 2020 out of a shared love of post-punk, emo, and indie music, Doris have spent the last few years working their way through the Australian music scene, whilst carrying a distinct DIY ethos throughout their work.
Whilst inspired by artists such as Sonic Youth, Title Fight, and Ovlov, Doris’ influences span further than just music, reaching into fields of creative arts and literature as well, with the bands vocalist and guitarist Ezekiel Kent Duong citing Sylvia Plath and Roland Barthes as having substantial impact on their writing.
Spawned out of the boredom and creative suppression caused by the pandemic, what started as a weekly garage practice, has grown into a dedicated group of artists, working to create noise within the national and international music world.
With their debut EP Birthday Cards set to release June 15th, Ezekiel finds themselves exploring themes of family, relationships, and vulnerability, and how we deal with these circumstances as people. With a youthful naivety to many situations, their writing functions as a form of reflection on these passing moments, that we experience in our adolescent and young adult lives. Filled with fuzzy guitars, sparkling synths, and vocals ranging from vibrant singing, to harsh, emotion filled, spoken word deliveries, alongside producer Caleb Anderson (Mouse), Doris is set to offer the Australian music scene an unforgettable body of work that will fulfil fans of Alex G, just easily as it will those of My Bloody Valentine.
Doris will be joined by local legends At Arm’s Length and Gong masters Ricky’s Breath.
