7pm- 8.30pm ANACTORIA & SAM THE WISE

9pm-10.30pm MICHAEL SIMIC

ANACTORIA (Tamlyn Magee, Candelo) is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter not afraid to do things her own way. Taking the Celtic harp (and an armful of spacious rhythms) way beyond it’s traditional sound and into the boldly layered territory of alt-folk / art-pop, she sets the scene for a vocal performance given with the vulnerable promise of depth. With an ambitious first album project in the works, Anactoria is blazing with new material on love, loss, womanhood and being an artist.

“...Anactoria is a fierce, yet gentle force... In my ten years of touring the country, I have not seen or heard anything like the unique magic she possesses.” CANDICE MCLEOD

Joining Anactoria for this special evening is SAM THE WISE, whose vast musical experience expands their sonic landscape into something new and unknown for them both - and you - to explore. With their powers combined, a multi-instrumental, lyrically potent, emotionally literate force to be reckoned with is born.

MICHAEL SIMIC

Stepping out from behind the Mikelangelo persona, Michael Simic announces a solo tour in November to launch the single Dark Moon, from his forthcoming album.

Well known for his long term band Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen (who celebrate their 20th anniversary this year), Simic’s solo work puts his intimate storytelling and reflective ballads front and centre. Balancing light and shadow, his melodic, guitar driven songs and sonorous voice share terrain inhabited by Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave, mixed with the dreamy and expansive musical landscapes of Mazzy Star, Cowboy Junkies and Calexico.

For Simic, who had his first child with his wife at 49, there was a mixture of emotions, and an incredible flood of creativity. Taking a year off has afforded him downtime to connect with more personal songwriting. Dark Moon was penned in a caravan out the back of a converted church where his small family live near Braidwood in country NSW. The song was inspired by starry nights far from the city, and a need to make peace with the past and accept the present.
