Rock/jazz/indie darlings double date are infamous within Meanjin’s underground scene for their magnetic and high-energy live performances. With a burgeoning cult-following, double date are a non-negotiable for fans of contemporary rock that thinks outside the box. Comprising of some of the city’s top young musicians, this group is not one to miss.

strayfold is an alternative rock band from cozy Magandjin, arising with their dynamic shoegaze sound. Their songs marry gracefully vulnerable lyrics with tenacious instrumentals, creating passionate music brooding with intimacy, tenderness and fervour. The 6-piece ensemble features striking sounds of violin, baritone guitar, and soaring female vocals. 

01 Thurman is the indie rock project of Josh Bartlett. Off the back of an impressive output of demo tapes, 01 Thurman has carved out a unique space that calls upon sprawling post-punk as much as it does fuzzy lo-fi pop. These home recordings act as a vehicle for the controlled chaos of 01 Thurman Band’s live sound, the four piece showcasing a mesmerising presence that has landed on lineups with various heavyweights from Good Morning to These New South Whales. 01 Thurman’s DIY core and genre blending make him hard to pin down - all you can do is see what happens.
