Double Klavier
Event description
In this exquisite program, we present a rare side-by-side concert with two international piano powerhouses: Paavali Jumpannen (FIN) and Konstantin Shamray (RUS). These pianists are formidable, fearless and flawless interpreters of epic solo piano works. Double Klavier centres around two landmark works showcasing their extraordinary talent and virtuosity. Experience the monumental Beethoven Hammerklavier Sonata, Op. 106, renowned for its technical and expressive demands. Its intricate fugue and revolutionary harmonic structure stretched piano technique and set the stage for Romanticism’s emotional depth. In contrast, Schumann’s Humoreske, Op. 20 offers an intimate, introspective journey through ever-shifting emotions, exploring the Romantic character and psychology in music.
CIMF also presents a new four-hand work by composer-in-residence Olivia Davies, bringing these two artists together on one instrument. Double Klavier reveals critical moments in the evolution of piano’s emotional depth and expressive potential, highlighting the extraordinary artistry of these soloists.
