Floods and Volcano Caravan Tour
Event description
What do Douglas County’s mesas and buttes tell us about geologic history and the events that shaped our landscape? Join us for a car caravan geologic field trip from Franktown to Larkspur as DLC and DCOS volunteer geologists lead you through the story that unravels how our current landforms took shape, and how Douglas County’s geologic processes impacted the course of Colorado’s Platte River. After meeting at Hidden Mesa, we'll stop at Prairie Canyon Open Space, Lincoln Mountain Open Space, the side of East Greenland Road, and Larkspur City Park. There's two date options- you'll be prompted to select your preferred date after clicking "Register."
We'll meet at the Hidden Mesa Open Space parking lot- May 24 will begin at 10am, and June 7 will begin at 9am. Wear appropriate clothing for the weather and limited off-trail walking to geologic points of interest. Bring water and snacks! There are restrooms at 4 of the 5 stops.
IMPORTANT: To keep the length of the caravan down, we will be asking folks to carpool from Hidden Mesa to the other sites. If you have extra space, please consider volunteering to take others in your car to further condense the caravan.
