Description

Doughnut Economics offers a simple but ambitious goal: meeting the needs of all people within the limits of our living planet.

Researchers at the University of Tasmania have applied this globally recognised framework to Tasmania, bringing together indicators spanning our environment and social wellbeing. The results reveal a significant challenge: Tasmania is exceeding many ecological boundaries while, at the same time, falling short in areas important to people’s wellbeing.

But measuring the problem is only the beginning. What do we do about it?

This interactive forum will introduce the Tasmania Doughnut and its key findings before inviting participants to explore the actions and changes that could help Tasmania address its ecological overshoots and social shortfalls. What are we already doing well? What needs to change? Where could one action deliver benefits across several environmental and social challenges? And what gets in the way?

The forum forms part of University of Tasmania research examining pathways towards social and ecological wellbeing in Tasmania. Ideas generated through the workshop will help inform the next stage of this work.

No prior knowledge of Doughnut Economics is needed. The forum is open to anyone interested in Tasmania’s environment, communities, economy and future.
