Dr Aya Udagawa: The Holocaust in Japan — An Introduction to Major Museums

Dr Aya Udagawa holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Tokyo. She has conducted anthropological research on Jewish communities during extended stays in Argentina and Israel. Her current research focuses on family histories written by Jewish people and on migration history, and she is planning a comparative study with family histories written in Japan. This is her second short-term research visit to Australia, following her stay in 2024.

In this talk, “The Holocaust in Japan: An Introduction to Major Museums,” Dr Udagawa introduces major Holocaust-related museums in Japan and briefly discusses how the Holocaust has been presented and understood in Japanese society.
