Criminalising Coercive Control: Experiences in Preparation and Implementation
Event description
Please join us to hear from Dr Hannah Tonkin (NSW Women's Safety Commissioner) as she shares her reflections on the NSW experience to inform and provide practical guidance to both government and non-government organisations as we prepare for commencement of landmark legislation to criminalise coercive control, expected to commence in 2025.
Prior to commencing as the NSW Women's Safety Commissioner in 2023, Hannah Tonkin worked as an international human rights lawyer at the United Nations, as the Director of Disability Rights at the Australian Human Rights Commission, and as a barrister in London and Adelaide. She was also a lecturer in international law at the University of Oxford and University of Adelaide, and Co-Chair of the Women and Girls Rights Subcommittee of the Australian Lawyers for Human Rights.
We encourage everyone to join us in person for this invaluable event. For those who are unable to join us in person, registration is available for the live stream of the event.
