Description

These are the everyday therapeutic essentials at the heart of my clinical work, the skills I return to again and again to reduce vulnerability, support mood, and help people regain their footing.

Presenter: Dr. Madeline Wishart

Our body and mind are in constant conversation. The way we think, feel, move, eat, sleep, connect, and cope all shape our emotional capacity, and when even one of these areas dips, mood can quickly feel heavier and harder to manage. Small shifts in energy, motivation, nourishment, or physical wellbeing can narrow our Window of Tolerance, making everyday challenges feel sharper, bigger, or more personal than they otherwise would. In these moments, mood becomes more fragile, thinking less flexible, and coping can feel out of reach.

This workshop explores the quiet mechanics behind emotional vulnerability: how sleep, movement, nourishment, connection, and daily habits influence our ability to regulate emotions, make decisions, and resist unhelpful or impulsive urges. Drawing on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and third‑wave approaches (DBT & ACT), we’ll unpack practical skills such as HALT, PLEASED, STRONG, ACE your day, RAIN, and mindful discomfort, simple, evidence‑informed strategies that reliably support mood and reduce vulnerability for clients across the lifespan.

These therapeutic building blocks can be integrated directly into your work, helping people strengthen self‑care capacity, widen their emotional bandwidth, and find their footing when mood dips.

This 2 1/2 hour virtual session delivers immediately usable, psychologically informed strategies to help you support clients in real time

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Understand the interplay between physical wellbeing, daily habits, and emotional vulnerability, and how these factors shape mood.

  • Support clients to build self‑care capacity and strengthen the foundations that reduce vulnerability to low mood and emotional overwhelm.

  • Integrate several mood‑support and vulnerability‑reducing skills into existing therapeutic work with your clients
