ABOUT ROB MCWILLIAMS
Rob was born and raised in Melbourne and played professionally on the scene there in the late ’70’s and throughout the ’80’s including stints with fusion band McDonald’s Farm and mainstream jazz group Wilbur Wilde’s Blowout. Dr. McWilliams has also performed with a number of domestic and international symphonic and jazz ensembles including performances with the following jazz artists: Mickey Tucker, Bobby Shew, Pete Christlieb, Nat Adderley, Vincent Herring, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Eddie Daniels, Ed Shaughnessy, Andy Martin, Dale Barlow, Wilbur Wilde, and Paul Grabowsky. From 1991 to 2014 he was resident in the USA where he was a professor of music at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh directing ensembles and teaching courses in conducting, music education, and jazz. He relocated to Brisbane in 2015 where he now freelances as a musician, educator, and conductor as well as working for Yamaha Music Australia as their Education Outreach Clinician and as a sessional lecturer at the Jazz Music Institute. Rob will be joined on this gig by a stellar lineup of local Brisbane musicians put together to perform standards and some of Rob’s original compositions spanning the last few decades.
ABOUT THE EVAN J. EVANS TRIO
The Rhythm Section is a Brisbane-based jazz Piano Trio featuring Alex Askew on double bass, Evan J. Evans on drums and Jordy Stitt on piano.
The trio share a deep passion for jazz, taking inspiration from such legendary groups as those lead by Oscar Peterson, Nat King Cole, Hank Jones, Ahmad Jamal, Bill Evans and Red Garland. Over the years they’ve continued to refine an exciting, captivating and mellow sound that is sure to delight jazz enthusiasts and music lovers alike.
