Draw Portland - Kids Workshop
Description
Draw Portland is back for a second year!
Come and join other artists and draw around the historic, post-industrial The Foundations Portland site.
Kids can learn drawing with Alice Martin, one of the artists in residence this year at The Squatters at The Foundations.
About the workshop
During this workshop we will combine drawing and collaging to depict our surroundings at The Foundations of Portland. We will go over observational drawing techniques, use of colour and layering and folding paper techniques to create our works. By observing our surroundings and using our imaginations children will be guided in folding and collage techniques to make three dimensional (pop out?) works. During this outdoor workshop children will be encouraged to observe and depict the animals, buildings and natural landscape that surrounds us, making artworks that reflect on the beauty and history of Portland.
Alice Martin is a multidisciplinary artist practicing on Gadigal land in Eora/Sydney with a Master of Fine Art from the National Art School. She has been a recent artist in residence at the Squatters Residency in Portland, where she stayed and worked on her art practice for a month. Martin’s work investigates impermanence through interventions on discarded domestic objects, found and collected from street waste. Her methodology engages with expanded print practices, with use of embodied, intuitive processes that dismantle and transform found objects via acts of transfer, pressure and contact. These objects act as containers for preserving temporal experiences and possible narrative histories that can never be fully traced or reconstructed. Recent exhibitions include the Willoughby Emerging Art Prize at Art Space Gallery (2026), Gosford Art Prize at Gosford Regional Gallery (2026) The World As Glass at COMA (2026), Gosford Emerging Art Prize at Gosford Regional Gallery (2025) and a commission for Libris Awards: The Australian Artist's Book Prize at Artspace Mackay (2025).
