Expressive Drawing & Mixed Media Painting Workshop

Location: Lavender Bay & Hanke Studio, North Sydney
Dates: 12th & 13th April 2025

Day 1: En Plein Air at Lavender Bay & Wendy's Secret Garden

• Embrace the beauty of Lavender Bay and Wendy’s Secret Garden, drawing inspiration from the surroundings to create expressive sketches that capture your personal connection to these magical spaces.
• Explore different materials like charcoal, ink, and watercolor, and develop your own unique style through spontaneous, free-flowing marks.
• With the studio just a short walk away, you’ll have the freedom to bounce back and forth between the vibrant outdoor scenes and your creative space, refining your sketches and soaking in the environment.

Day 2: Studio Work at Hanke Studio

• In the studio, bring your plein air sketches to life, experimenting with mixed media (acrylics, pastels, and inks) to deepen your connection with your subject and enhance your personal style.
• Play with layering techniques and textures, building bold, expressive works that reflect your unique perspective on Lavender Bay and Wendy’s Secret Garden.

• The day will be filled with exciting opportunities for feedback and encouragement, as you share your progress, experiment freely, and celebrate your journey in these inspiring locations.

Materials List for En Plein Air Sketching:

Essential Supplies:

• 4B pencil & sharpener
• Cartridge pad/sketchbook (any size; bring a board and clips if needed)
• Artline pen, small brush, black marker or Sharpie, small water bottle
• Hat, sunscreen, drinking water

Optional Extras:

• Black or sepia ink
• Fountain pen
• Watercolor or gouache kit
• Larger drawing brush
• Portable chair/stool (extras available if needed)

Studio Materials:
Please bring your usual studio materials.
