The multi award-winning Mighty Playwrights program brings the joy of writing
and storytelling to the next generation of young people. A collaborative partnership
between local schools, The Lieder Theatre Company, Goulburn Mulwaree Library,
Hume Conservatorium, and Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, the Mighty Playwrights
program inspires young people to discover the power of their own thoughts and
voices through storytelling, and the performing arts.

Each year, 6-7 young writers aged 9-12 years and nominated by their schools,
work with professional mentors in the Library to create original short stage plays.
The plays are then transformed into full-scale productions by the Lieder Theatre Company,
complete with original music and soundscapes composed by students from
Hume Conservatorium and original illustrations created by students from
Goulburn Regional Art Gallery. Mighty Playwrights is a whole-of-community
celebration of the arts, led by the voices and hearts of our young people.

A deeply moving and unflinching journey into Australia's dark history.
Convict William Thornhill, exiled from the stinking slums of early 19th century London, discovers that the penal colony offers something that he never dared to hope for before: a place of his own. A stretch of land on the Hawkesbury River is Thornhill’s for the taking.
As he and his family seek to establish themselves in this unfamiliar territory, they find that they are not the only ones to lay a claim to the land. The Hawkesbury is already home to a family of Dharug people, who are reluctant to leave on account of these intruders.
As Thornhill’s attachment to the place and the dream deepens, he is driven to make a terrible decision that will haunt him for the rest of his life.
