Drip Drop Play
Drip Drop Play is a joyful and calming sensory experience that encourages children and their grown ups to listen and explore in an immersive colourful world of ice and water.
Led by silent characters Drip and Drop, the experience begins in a welcome room with lighting, song, and listening games, encouraging attentive listening and engagement.
In the Ice Room, melting ice pieces create a dynamic soundscape, which children alter using found objects such as tins and cups.
The final space features giant water bowls illuminated by shifting LED patterns, where musicians perform in the water, before inviting the children and their parents to experiment with sound-making.
The performance fosters collaboration, creativity, and scientific inquiry, strengthening connections between children and their parents or grandparents through shared discovery.
Sessions
The sessions are designed for specific age groups
Each level is differentiated in the way the facilitators speak and interact with the children
3 - 5 years
Is focused on play, discovery and connection with the grown up that has come with them
July 15th: 9:30am
July 16th: 9:30am & 10:45am
6 - 9 years
Is about play, discovery and connection too, but there are opportunities for the children to perform for the group and show what they have discovered.
July 14th: 1:30pm & 2:45pm
July 15th: 10:45am
8 - 11 years
While there is plenty of play, discovery and connection in this show, we talk much more about the science of sound and water, and lead structured improvisation and composition activities with the children in small groups. They often end the session by performing their work for each other
July 15th: 1pm (performance + optional composition & mallet making workshop)
As well as being a transformative experience for the children participating in the show, it is also a chance to build connection between children and parents and/or grandparents throughout the process of discovery and creativity. In this spirit, for the 3-5 & 6-9 age groups it is encouraged to come with just one guardian per child
Sessions for ages of 8 -11 are able to bring one guardian per child or drop off/pick up
Each session is 40 minutes in duration
Performance contains haze effects

FAQs
- Pre-Show Info
There will be raincoats for children to wear during the show, feel free to bring your own if they'd prefer that.
There is some gentle splashing in the water bowls during the show, your little one will likely need a change of clothes for after the performance.
The lighting is low and gentle throughout the show, there will be a small amount of (water based) haze in one of the rooms.
For safety reasons we cannot accommodate siblings under 3 years of age, however babes in arms are most welcome.
- Why are there so many age groups?
We carefully differentiate the content offered between each age group to ensure that the sessions are pitched to the children present. While the physical set remains the same, we alter our language and the activities we invite the children to get involved in. We understand that families have siblings of different ages, and we do sometimes have a wide mix of ages in our shows. Our experienced performers are able to accomodate this where possible. However it is important that the parents are aware of the age group of each session when booking, so that they have clear expectations of the session.
- Why is it only one grown up per child?
1. Safety: Our show features large pieces of ice hanging from the ceiling and large bowls with up to 30 litres of water in each, we need the support of parents to supervise their children in this space, especially the two younger age groups (3-5 and 6-9).
2. Connection: One of the core intentions of the show is to support a connection between the little people and the special big person that brings them along. This is not a chance for grown ups to catch up with each other, this is time to get on the same level as the child and connect with what they are discovering and exploring, while getting lost in that world themselves.
3. Space: each space in our show (water / welcome / ice) has limited room, and we cannot fit multiple extra adults along.
- Can extra adults be observers?
Yes, depending on the space in the venue.
If there is room, we can set up chairs on the edges of the spaces so that extra parents and grandparents can come in and watch. If this is the setup, we have our FOH staff ask which adult will be participating and which ones will be observing, it helps to set up the expectations for the rooms inside.
- What if an adult books for more than one child?
It is ideal to have one adult per child in this show for supervision and connection reasons mentioned above. We know that sometimes that isn’t possible, but strongly recommend no more than 2 children per adult.
- What about little siblings under 3?
For safety reasons we cannot have children under 3 in the space. There are also lots of focused listening activities that are tricky for under 3s.
This doesn’t not include babes in arms who are more than welcome.
