Drizzle Boy Screening

Join us for a special screening of Australian Theatre Live’s premiere screen release of Queensland Theatre’s acclaimed production of Drizzle Boy. Winner of the Queensland Premier’s Drama Award, Drizzle Boy is the first Australian mainstage play written by an autistic playwright about an autistic protagonist.

Written by NIDA alumnus, award-winning playwright Ryan Enniss (Acting 2021), Drizzle Boy has been celebrated for its authentic portrayal of autism and its fresh theatrical voice. Starring neurodivergent actor Daniel R. Nixon in the title role, the production offers a moving, funny and deeply human coming-of-age story told through magical realism.

As Drizzle Boy begins his first semester at university, he dreams of building a rocket and travelling into space. Along the way, he navigates family expectations, friendship, first love and the challenge of finding his place in the world.

Supported by NIDA's neurodivergent peer-led group, Neurokin, following the screening, stay for a conversation with playwright Ryan Enniss and Elise Mather, Client Relationship Manager at Bus Stop Films and NIDA third year Acting student Rashie Kase, moderated by Madeleine Jaine Lobsey, from Wondiverse, exploring the creative process, authentic representation and the journey of bringing this remarkable work from stage to screen.
