Drum and Dance Workshops with Bangoura Ke
Event description
Drum and Dance Workshops with Bangoura Ke in the Northern Rivers
The power of African rhythm, the freedom of African dance.
Ewingsdale Hall Sunday April 2nd
Open to everybody and anybody, you need only the willingness to learn and desire to expand.
Complete beginners are welcome.
Bangoura Ke (aka Mohamed Bangoura) is one of the most patient, generous and experienced teachers of the music and dance of his people, the Susu/Malinke, of West Africa.
The djembe is his life! And there is no separation between drum and dance. They are one!
Supported by Elliott Orr of Talkin' the Drum and Spankinhide, plus other talented drummers, these won't just be a couple of workshops. This will be a day of full power experience.
What a way to bring a little rhythm into your life, or get your dance groove on!
The drum workshop includes instruction on how to play the djembe and the facilitation of a traditional African rhythm.
The doundoun dance workshop combines playing the doundoun (bass drum hit with sticks) with African dance moves. It's wild, you get to be the drummer and dancer simultaneously.
The dance workshop will have the group learning a simple choreography of funky-arse African dance moves.
No experience required to participate.
Plenty of djembes available. But for the doundoun dance, bookings are essential to secure a doudoun.
