Event description

This is a drum and rhythm workshop for people who have participated in the POP Choir! I am running this as a not-for-profit event, but welcome contributions towards drum and venue hire. So many people were asking me about drumming, so I have created this event for you.

Please note this is for POP Choir participants only, due to space limitations. You must book online to secure a spot. This is being run by Seka Rae, it is not a PIF event.

A limited number of drums are available but please bring your own djembe if you have one. Please book either way.

This workshop is suitable for beginners or those who have never picked up a drum before. Many of the activities will be based on the Rhythm2Recovery model, which delivers therapeutic programs and professional development, that utilise fun and engaging rhythmic musical activities to support social and emotional connection and development. Based on the latest neuro-science, this approach has been shown to support increased emotional regulation, improved social connection and reduced levels of anxiety and other elements of psychological distress. I will also be using my skills and experience that I developed in previous music training and exploration. We will be learning how do foundational rhythms, games and use rhythmic techniques to give ourselves positive messages, release tension, get in touch with our feelings and inspire our creativity. The workshop will include the following:

* An introduction to the drum in healing
* Basic Drum Technique
* Bass, Tone, and Flam exercises
* An introduction to basic rhythms
* Call and response games
* Rumbles for connection and fun
* Examining connection through rhythm
* Rhythmic exercises for focus & attention
* Rhythm exercises that explore communication
* Rhythm exercises that focus on strengths (Positive Psychology)
* Rhythm exercises that support the cathartic release of pent up feelings
* and much more!
