    Event description

For the first time, Dianella Secondary College is offering an after-school STEM CLUB during Term 3 weeks 3, 6 and 9.  Students from Year 4, 5 and 6 who are interested in coding, robotics and Aboriginal culture are encouraged to participate in this program. Light afternoon snacks are also provided on arrival for all participating.

The world is changing around us. Digital technology has become a core part of our everyday lives. Advances in technology impact everything, especially the world of work. Entire job sectors are emerging or disappearing, and workforces are rushing to keep up with change. Did you know that 85% of jobs in 2030 have not been invented yet?

Our specialist STEM enrichment program is by application only and students in this taster program will be encouraged to apply. This is an innovative and integrated approach to learning by combining key elements of Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Aboriginal concepts. It is offered to students to engage them in a collaborative manner and address the needs of 21st century skills and employment opportunities. Students will be immersed in a creative environment, whereby they are encouraged and motivated to find solutions to real problems locally and globally, while simultaneously addressing the requirements of the WA and Australian curriculum.

    Through this experience, students will:

    • Learn about Indigenous STEM knowledge.
    • Strengthen understanding of sustainable systems and futures.
    • Develop STEM skills.
    • Connect with community Elders and Knowledge-Holders
    • Visit cultural sites of significance.
    • Visit local STEM research centres.
    • Meet STEM professionals.
