A new actor every night.

A script sealed in an envelope.

At each performance, a different actor will take the stage. They will be handed a script they’ve never seen before, and the audience and the actor will embark upon a theatre experience like no other.

In the hands of a different actor every night, White Rabbit Red Rabbit takes audiences on a new adventure with every performance, depending on how the author’s words compel each actor to perform.

This stark and incredible piece of theatre embraces comedy and tragedy in a way that will leave you on the edge of your seat, and with a cast of incredible Denver actors, this is a piece that you won’t want to miss.

Please note: an age guidance of 14+ is recommended. There are many themes in this show that are designed to make the viewer feel uncomfortable and to think for many days to come.

Denver Theatre Ensemble is a small nonprofit theatre company based in Denver, Colorado, and we are so excited to kick off our second season this summer! To keep our productions and events as accessible as possible, we work off a pay-what-you-can model for ticketing. Tickets are a suggested donation starting at $25. Forbidden to leave his country, playwright Nassim Soleimanpour distilled the experience of an entire generation in a wild, utterly original play. White Rabbit Red Rabbit is as much about contemporary Iran as it is about power dynamics in the rest of the world.

Since its joint premiere in 2011 in Edinburgh and Summerworks festival, White Rabbit Red Rabbit has been translated into more than 30 different languages and has been performed over 3000 times by some of the biggest names in theatre and film.

Denver Theatre Ensemble is a 501-c3 nonprofit theatre company located in Denver, Colorado. We are currently fundraising for our very first season, which will take place in the Fall of 2024. All donations will go towards compensation for our artists, and help fund our design elements (costumes, scenery, lighting, and sound) for the upcoming season. Denver Theatre Ensemble was founded with one goal in mind: to create high-quality theatre that centers and prioritizes the art. Founders Rhianna DeVries, Tess Neel, and Ina Marlowe are dedicated to cultivating a professional artistic space that is devoted to reinventing tradition in theatre; by prioritizing the exploration of deeply human stories (regardless of when they were written), and challenging the social structures that continue to limit theatre as a practice, Denver Theatre Ensemble will break the mold.

In our short history, before and after achieving not-for-profit status, we have produced a World Premiere, a Denver Premiere, and dozens of opportunities for actors, directors, and designers to work with meaningful classical stories, as well as collaborate with contemporary playwrights. We will continue to create an artistic space that sheds new light on one of the most human ways we connect with one another: storytelling. Through inquisitive, innovative, thoughtful theatre-making, we will build a vessel through which everyone involved can more deeply realize what it means to be human.

Denver Theatre Ensemble originally grew out of “Dream Scenes,” a scene-study class led by Ina Marlowe and Rhianna DeVries. The participating actors were hungry to accomplish good work, and we wanted to provide a platform for that work to be supported and showcased within our community. Denver Theatre Ensemble provides opportunities for artists to delve into great literature in a nurturing and professional environment.

Denver Theatre Ensemble will reinvent tradition by creating a professional theatrical space that redefines the limits of the artistic process, reimagines classical and contemporary works through a modern lens, and represents our diverse world both on and off stage; through this work, Denver Theatre Ensemble will be a hub through which to realize our collective humanity.

Art is an ancient process that flows through our consciousness. It is idea, concept, and intention. We know that the artifact, the result, the physical representation is not, in itself, the art. We know that art is the meaning –what you feel, what you think, what you perceive, and how you react is the art. And, most importantly, we know that there is no art without the artist.
