Dundee in Action - Tools for Change

We'd like to invite you to join us at "Tools for Change", a skillshare on activism for social and climate justice organised by Dundee Changemakers. Taking place on Thursday 19th of November 15:30-17:30 at Cooper Gallery (DJCAD, University of Dundee, Perth Rd - now hosting an exhibition on activism).

This is the first of 2 skillshares we've organised in response to requests from communities. Often our third sector is so busy patching up our broken system and caring for those around us that it is hard to find the time and space to reflect, learn and plan more strategically (and radically) to influence changes to practice, policy and the system.

We have invited activists with local and national experience and lessons learned through campaigning and organising action themselves. They will be sharing some insight about their struggles and how they have resisted or challenged the status quo. Then we'll have smaller group discussions/ surgeries to look at different tools and approaches to activism and listen to everyone in the room so we can support each other to drive change on local issues that matter to us.

We'd encourage you to bring your own social or climate interest or challenge to seek support from around the table but you can also just attend to find inspiration, make connections and learn from others. Some of the tools we'd like to explore further in terms of which work best (or not) for which purpose/ moment/ capacity are: grassroots campaign organizing, consultation responses, institutional lobbying, letters to politicians, artivism, direct action, demonstrations, public persuasion, etc.

There will be snacks and drinks and some time to network at the start. We really hope you can make it so we can spend some valuable time together learning and sharing in person.
