Description

Dungeon Master 101

Free Community Workshop

Ever wanted to run your own tabletop RPG campaign but had no idea where to start? This free, beginner-friendly workshop is your entry point.

On Sunday 26th July, 9:30am-2:30pm at Boomers Pavilion, Eaton, five experienced Dungeon Masters will walk you through everything you need to know to get a game off the ground; from the basic rules and mechanics to world building, character work, and keeping your players safe and included at the table.

We'll cover:

  • Game rules & mechanics (both online and in-person play)

  • Safety tools and accessible play

  • Characters and role play

  • World building and description

  • Overcoming self-doubt as a new DM

  • Resources to keep you going after the day

You don't need to have run a game before, or even played one. A little familiarity with tabletop RPGs helps, but it's not required. Just bring yourself (and maybe a notebook and pen).

Cost: Free, but registration is essential via our website

Age: Open to anyone 16 and over. Support workers are welcome.

While our usual programs are aimed at 18-30 year olds, this one has no upper age limit. All ages and abilities are welcome.

FAQs

  • Can I come by myself?

Absolutely! We encourage any and all people to attend. We will make sure you feel welcome!

  • Can I bring a support worker?

For sure. Your support worker does not have to register but they are more than welcome to join in all the activities we have on offer.

  • What food is available?

We will provide catering for morning tea and lunch. This will likely be fruit, popcorn, Subway or pizza (to be confirmed). Please include any dietary requirements on your registration if there is anything for us to be aware of.

  • Do I need to bring anything?

You do not need to bring anything, however, we could recommend a note book and pen to take notes.

  • Is there parking?

There is free parking out the front of the venue. Due to the current renovations, you might need to go around to the back entrance of Council Drive, or you can park anywhere in the shopping centre carpark.

  • Is there public transport?

You can take bus route 844 or 845 to Eaton Library. The closest bus stop is Recreation Dr Eaton Fair Shopping Ctr.

  • Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

    Yes, it is wheelchair accessible.

  • How old do I have to be to attend this event?

While our ongoing programs are targeted at 18-30 year olds, this one is open for anyone over the age of 16 (with no upper limit).

  • Who can I contact if I am nervous about attending or want more information?

Reach out to Bec (she/her) who would be happy to chat about our programs and ensure you have all the information you need: 0447 293 169.

  • What if I am running late?

Please try to arrive as close to the start time as possible so you don't miss the content, however, if you are running late, you will always be welcomed!

  • What if I have never played Dungeons and Dragons before?

This is a beginner friendly workshop to teach you the basics on how to run your own game. While it would be helpful for you to know a little bit about the game, there is no prior knowledge required.
