SUNDAY 23 JUNE, 5.30PM The Coolroom NORTHERN ARTS HOTEL

Graffiti – an art form or an act of vandalism? This contentious issue has been at the forefront of discussions around public art and urban aesthetics for decades. While some view it as a form of creative expression, others see it as a blight on our cities, towns, and suburbs. Tagging in particular often simply seen as an urban and commuinity eyesore. Now, a fundraising concert is being organised in Castlemaine to establish a volunteer group based on the Beaumaris model. Their work in the Melbourne suburb has been so successful that they've become a model for similar initiatives elsewhere.

Beaumaris Graffiti Busters

The success of the Beaumaris Graffiti Busters can't be understated. Their work has not only beautified the suburb of Beaumaris but also brought the community together in a shared goal. The new group in Castlemaine aims to replicate this success. Their goal is to establish a similar group that will identify, remove, and prevent graffiti in the Castlemaine area.

The concert will be an opportunity to feature musical duos from Castlemaine including Blue Tango, Inside Out, Finch, and Parapluie. These groups have generously donated their time and talent to support the cause.

The concert will be held on Sunday, 23rd June at 5:30pm in The Coolroom of the Northern Arts Hotel. This venue was chosen for its intimate and acoustically pleasing environment. All tickets are priced at a flat rate of $15, making the event accessible to all.

The concert is the first step raising around $8,000 for a fully-equipped trailer, based on the Beaumaris model. The especially designed trailer includes chemicals, paint, rollers, brushes, a gurney and water tanks.

Guest speaker during interval will be Geoff Bransbury, Beaumaris Graffiti Busters founder.

If you're in the Castlemaine area on the 23rd of June, we invite you to join us for a night of music, art, and community. Let's work together to reclaim our public spaces, fight against vandalism and restore civic pride to our beautiful historic town.

About the Performers
• BLUE TANGO is Dave Richard and Lynne Gough an acoustic duo featuring guitar, percussion and two voices - with a difference! They specialise in creative arrangements of jazz, blues, latin and ragtime classics. Comic parodies are an important part of their repertoire too.

• INSIDE OUT  With a shared passion for music, duo Claire and Paul present their own take on various less- covered songs bringing Blues, Folk , Jazz or even Rock to a different place with clever, sometimes different, arrangements of chords and licks  from Paul. This enhances the subtle earthy vocals from Claire, demonstrating both their skills and undying love for music.

• FINCH  is a new duo comprising Jane Cafarella accompanied by Rob Williams on guitar, featuring an eclectic palate of music chosen for their emotional stories, including reinterpretations of modern songs, standards from the American songbook, folk songs and songs from the stage.

• PARAPLUIE (Umbrella) is a new duo featuring Kathy O’Keefe and Peter Marples, singing charming French songs by Georges Brassens, Carla Brunie and Francoise Hardie, among others,  evoking sidewalk cafes, promenading by Seine, and –  naturellement -  l’amour.
