Duruflé Requiem directed by Paul Terracini
Event description
One of the undisputed masterpieces of the choral repertoire, Duruflé's Requiem is exquisitely beautiful and a poignant reflection on life. Allow your spirit to soar on the delicate vocal harmonies throughout the piece. Like Fauré, Duruflé omitted certain portions of the original Requiem text. He excised most of the highly dramatic Dies Irae (Day of Wrath) but like Fauré, repeated the gentle Pie Jesu, which became the achingly beautiful solo for mezzo soprano. The piece can be performed with a full orchestra, but we'll be performing the more intimate choir and organ version, which of course will be enhanced by the marvellous acoustics of St Finbar's Church, to showcase the choral serenity of the music and the organ's tonal richness throughout.
