Dust & Groove w/ Robbie Buck ft. Toby Martin
Event description
Join Robbie Buck (ex-ABC) for a new monthly night of vinyl, storytelling, and live performance at Petersham Bowling Club. Each event kicks off with Robbie spinning a curated selection of records before diving into conversation with a special guest, exploring their personal musical journey. To top it off, enjoy an intimate live performance of 2 or 3 songs to bring the stories to life.
For the second edition on May 14th, the spotlight turns Toby Martin, the lead singer and songwriter of the ARIA Award-winning band Youth Group, for an insightful event that blends music, history, and culture. A Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Toby is also a respected songwriter, solo artist, and music historian. His work explores themes of place, memory, and home, with innovative approaches to cross-cultural collaborations and social inclusivity through music. Toby’s research has delved into the social and cultural history of Australian country music, Aboriginal country music, and the criminalisation of drill rap, among other topics. Currently a Co-Chief Investigator on the ARC Discovery Project Hearing the Music of Early NSW: 1788-1860, Toby brings a unique perspective to the intersection of music, culture, and history. Don’t miss the chance to hear from this multifaceted artist and scholar.
