For one day only, Dustin Tebbutt performs selected works from his latest record, A Bend In The Light, as well as favourites from his catalogue, in an immersive headphone show in the Magdalene Laundry at Abbotsford Convent. Two sittings: afternoon and evening.
This is not a conventional gig. Every audience member is seated with a set of wired headphones, connected directly to a dedicated mix of the performance as it happens. The room stays dark and undistracted. No bar noise, no chatter, no straining to hear from the back. Wherever you sit, you hear the show the way it sounds on stage: close, detailed and complete. Every seat is the front row.
Dustin writes, records and produces all of his own work, and this show extends that studio intimacy into a live room. He describes it as a live listening library: a shared space built for private listening, where the connection between artist and listener is one on one.
It is the first time his music has been performed in this form, and these are the only two performances currently planned. Each sitting is limited by design.

- What is a headphone show exactly?
This is a unique kind of show. Every audience member will be given a pair of wired headphones, and Dustin and his band will be wearing them too. The whole point is to become entranced and engrossed in the music with as few distractions as possible, staged in one of Melbourne's most beautiful locations.
- Do I need to bring headphones?
No. A pair of wired headphones is provided to every audience member.
- Can I use my own headphones instead?
No sorry. The headphones we provide will be specifically set up for this show.
- I wear hearing aids. Will this work for me?

Yes, this is a fully seated performance. Seating is unallocated.
- Can I take photos or videos?
We ask that phones stay away for the duration of the performance. This show is designed around deep listening, and a sea of screens works against that for everyone. There'll be a moment at the end for photos.
- Is the venue accessible?

- Is there a bar?
No, this one's a dry show. The performance is designed around stillness and deep listening, so there's no bar on site. The surrounding area has plenty of good options for a drink before or afterwards.
