Dying to Live
Description
Dying to Live turns the lens of death and farewell back towards the living.
This facilitated experiential hauora wānanga creates space to reflect on what matters, who matters, what we might be ready to release and what we want to carry forward.
For our first Dying to Live wānanga, we begin with AHI.
Fire can symbolise release, cleansing, transformation and renewal. Through a symbolic burning ceremony and facilitated kōrero, we will explore questions such as:
What are we ready to release?
What no longer serves us?
What do we want to leave behind?
What do we want to carry forward?
What are we making space for?
This is not a recreation of tangihanga or tikanga associated with cremation, nor is it grief counselling or therapy. It is a facilitated wellbeing experience that uses the symbolism of ahi and transformation to create space for reflection, conversation and intentional choice. Dying to Live recognises that understandings of death, farewell, spirituality, family, ancestors and legacy differ across cultures, and does not prescribe one way of understanding death or living.
Developed under MCC – Multicultural Connection Collective and delivered in collaboration with Te Mauri o te Māori, Dying to Live creates opportunities to kōrero, reflect and reconnect while exploring what gives our lives meaning.
From ahi to ora.
From release to renewal.
From dying to living.
