Eagle Habitat Identification and Management Course
Event description
This course is designed to provide attendees with information on the identification and management of wedge-tailed eagle and white-bellied sea eagle habitat and nest sites.
Dates and locations
This is a 2-day course. One theory-based day in Launceston and 1 field day with the option of EITHER north OR south. When you get your tickets, you will select your field day and be automatically enrolled in the theory day on 16 May. We will make every effort to place you in your preferred field course, however, due to demand, we may need to prioritise people based on their region (north or south). If we ask you to switch field course dates, we will speak with you well in advance.
Theory day: Launceston, Thursday, 16 May 2024
Field day: Scottsdale (North) field trip - Friday, 17 May
Colebrook (South) field trip- Wednesday, 22 May
Who will find the course useful?
The course is designed for Forest Practices Officers and other environmental practitioners who are required to conduct eagle habitat assessments and/or design eagle nest management. The course may also be relevant for people working in conservation and land management fields, including government agencies, consultants, NRM groups and other organisations, councils and landowners. Course participants will gain an understanding of the rationale behind current management recommendations and how the recommended actions should be applied in different scenarios. Attendees, upon successful completion of the course and assessment, will be accredited in the identification of areas to search for eagle nests, to conduct field searches for nests, and do ground-based activity status checks of nests.
Previously attended this course? Planners are encouraged to maintain the currency of their skills either through ongoing involvement in
eagle management or refreshing their eagle training every five years.

Assessment
Participants who wish to be accredited will be required to complete an assessment after the field day.
