Philanthropy has been on the mind of Australians in 2024; the Productivity Commission published the findings for its inquiry into philanthropy in July 2024. But how has effective giving fared in the current economic climate? What does it mean to be effective—given that available evidence and global priorities are always changing? And how can individual donors and corporations pursue effective giving according to their values and opportunities to give?

This public keynote is the opening event of EAGxAustralasia 2024, the major event for the effective altruism community across Australia and New Zealand.

The EAGxAustralasia conference will be running from November 22nd - November 24th. Attendance at the full conference requires application (applications closed November 3rd). This keynote is ticketed so that members of the public who do not wish to attend the whole conference can connect with the effective altruism community.
