Abby Martin’s new documentary, Earth’s Greatest Enemy, shines an important light on the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gas emissions; and the huge global policy gap in addressing our climate crisis - the U.S. military. Throughout the UNFCCC’s annual conferences of the parties (COP), militaries have been exempt from our global climate accords. This has been the case from Berlin’s COP1 in 1995 to COP30 in Brazil this past December; and it has caused huge environmental impacts. Today, the United States military is the world’s largest military, it is also the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gases. From the wars waged to the emissions from fighter jets, burn pits, aircraft carriers, tanks, and more. All these activities come with steep environmental and climate costs for local communities and us all.
The film will be screened, followed by a talk with the director.

The Master of Science in Sustainable Environmental Systems (SES) is one of the nation’s most innovative, interdisciplinary, systems-based sustainability programs. This STEM certified degree program is designed to meet today’s increasing demand for environmental professionals, uniquely combining environmental science, sustainable design, and climate policy. Students learn the interdisciplinary skills and systems-thinking approach needed to assess contemporary environmental issues; catalyze innovative environmental problem-solving; uphold environmental and social justice; and engage diverse stakeholders in designing and developing sustainable communities.

MC/Moderator: Martha Molfetas, Visiting Assistant Professor, Pratt Institute GCPE Martha Molfetas is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute’s Graduate Center for Planning and the Environment, where she teaches Environmental Economics. Martha is a senior climate and energy policy consultant, writer, and strategist with over 15-years of experience helping NGOs, think tanks, and businesses unpack climate, environmental justice, resource conflict, sustainable development, and global policy issues – most recently as a Senior Fellow at New America. Her work has been published in Current Affairs, The World Politics Review, The Global Policy Journal, Policy Mic, Common Dreams, and others.
Abby Martin
Director, "Earth’s Greatest Enemy" Abby Martin is an independent journalist, the founder and host of The Empire Files, an investigative documentary series that became a main resource for people interested in understanding both the history, and current actions, of US imperialism. In 2019 she released her debut feature film, Gaza Fights For Freedom, covering the brutalizing of hundreds of peaceful protesters during the Great March of Return in Gaza. Her new film Earth’s Greatest Enemy is a searing case study about the environmental impact of the US military. Her uncompromising style has made her a standard-bearer of advocacy journalism, and one of the most well-known alternative media figures in the country.
