Description:
Join us for an in-depth artist talk & pottery demonstration with the renowned artist, potter David Pinto!
David will be throwing, altering and trimming pottery, sharing how he starts construction of his larger sculptures in addition to sharing images and some examples of his finished work.
David was born in Jamaica, studied in the US and exhibited his first work in Jamaica at the National Gallery before returning home. A dance began between Art and functional pottery - galleries and craft fairs.
“Different work is at home in different environments - there is no value judgment between the environment.” explains Pinto "I believe it’s about searching for the work you want to create and spending as much time as possible focused there. I thrive on a diverse approach, making hundreds of certain items and exploring the subtle shifts that happen over years, in contrast, a new sculpture might be only one of a six in a new series.”
Pinto will show images, talk about his work, inspiration and share his unique handling of clay. He works with spontaneous energy creating loose organic forms. A favorite on the wheel, are his signature triangular bowls with trimmed triangular feet. Current large sculptures, are part of a fertility pot series. Inspired from seed pods and human fertility.
