Easter at the Piano Mill 2024
Event description
An Imaginary Aviary, tower of pianos and world famous experimental musicians in the forest!
Vanessa Tomlinson's Imaginary Aviary is a chance to listen to a soundscape from the future – 8 new bird species that will appear in 10 years, 50 years, 500 years’ time. What do they sound like? What could future birdsong be? Featuring Peter Knight (trumpet), Flora Wong (violin), Jodie Rotte (flute & objects), Tara Pattendon (electronics), Chris Stover (trombone), Tim Munro (flute). The Imaginary Aviary was commissioned by Bleach Festival (Gold Coast), and begins a new partnership between Bleach and Harrigans Lane Collective.
The Piano Mill's special guest Jon Rose has redefined violin performance, through his innovative performance, his musical inventions, his "Rosenberg violin museum," and many international collaborations with artists and groups such as the Kronos String Quartet. For Easter he joins with Piano Mill artist in residence Erik Griswold to present new works and improvisations.
“A Piano Mill is a hybrid building and musical instrument, designed and purpose-built to house sixteen reclaimed pianos in a tower structure. Constructed in Northern New South Wales, Australia, it was designed by architect Bruce Wolfe specifically for composer Erik Griswold in 2016” (www.wikipedia.com).
