Eat New Zealand Cooking Demonstration
Event description
Join Ngai Tahu's Jason Hullen and Dr Mike Stephens in the kitchen as they reconnect you to where your kai comes from and truly appreciate the incredible ingredients we grow, catch and make locally.
Joseph Hullen:
Joseph Hullen (Ngāi Tūāhuriri/Ngāti Hinematua) has spent a lifetime gathering traditional kai and hearing stories about his hapū.
He has a special interest in Mātauranga Māori and Tikanga Māori and how this knowledge helps us to better understand early land use in New Zealand and make better decisions about future land development.
He is a hunter-gatherer, a fisherman, an explorer, a kaitiaki, a storyteller – and always he is Ngāi Tahu.
Dr Mike Stevens:
Kāi Tahu historian Dr Mike Stevens has a special interest in Kāi Tahu, Bluff, muttonbirding and boat-building. Mike and his whānau participate in the seasonal tītī harvest and are renowned for their continued use of pōhā, which are an iconic aspect of Kāi Tahu material culture.
This event is a collaboration with Eat New Zealand and Feast Matariki, a food movement dedicated to connecting people to our land through our kai.
