    Event description

In this workshop, participants will follow eBird Best Practices (https://ebird.github.io/ebird-best-practices/intro.html) to estimate encounter rate and relative abundance using eBird data with hands-on coding. Over the course of a full day, the workshop will cover preparing data for modeling, running a two-step hurdle model, making predictions, and evaluating the model with light interpretation. An understanding of the R programming language and species distribution modeling will be important to be successful in this workshop. The workshop will be very hands-on and have time for questions and troubleshooting code in real-time. There will also be opportunities to ask and discuss concepts related to best practices when using eBird data.
