Omkara is a spontaneous improvisational musical collective that emerged in July 2024 when we played at Grace Cathedral, collaborating with San Francisco's Illuminate The Art's spectacular laser light show - from the caverns of the cathedral emerged a dance of light and colour, sound, and silence,.. echoes of intimacy.
We are four people who love music, deep listening, and silence in motion. We create in the moment, and you are part of that moment.
Gari Hegedus - Oud, Tarhu, Mandocello, and Sasz
John Kadyk - Bass Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute, Steel Drums, and Percussion
Larry Walker - Bass, Flute(s), Hang, Keys, Drums (various), and Percussion.
Clare Hedin - Vocalist, Piano, Shruti Box, Percussion. She makes some of her instruments from shells, stones, feathers, and bones.
Our influences range from the North Sea and Scottish wildlands to Turkish meyhanes and Greek taverns, Arabia, deep jazz, music of the African diaspora, and live theater accompaniment.
