Urban Grow – Habitat & Minibeasts Holiday Workshop

Let your child’s imagination run wild these school holidays with Urban Grow’s Habitat & Minibeasts incursion – a messy, hands-on adventure into the world of tiny creatures and their homes.

Through curious investigation, we discover what makes a habitat, meet fascinating bugs up close, and even step into their shoes – or many little legs – through fun role-play. Children will head out on a “bug safari” through living compost, spotting worms, grubs, slaters, ants, and more.

Then it’s time to get creative, building unique hotels for their favourite creatures using sticks, bark, flowers, and other natural materials. Whether it’s a butterfly landing pad or a lizard’s water slide, anything goes! The session ends with each child crafting their own seed balls, filled with habitat-building flowers and herbs to plant at home.

It’s unstructured, imaginative, and wonderfully hands-on – the perfect blend of nature play and creative freedom.

Ages: 5 - 10 year olds, a guardian must accompany each child.
Location: The Genia McCaffery Centre for Sustainability at the Coal Loader, 2 Balls Head Drive Waverton.
Accessibility: All physical abilities are welcome as the site is fully accessible. Please contact our team for any special requirement requests or questions.

Cost: $0 to take part however ONLY book if you can make it.
What to bring: Reusable water bottle, and plastic-free snacks for after the class. Close-toed shoes. Sun and rain protection.
Wet Weather: In the case of wet weather, indoor activities may replace any planned outdoor activities. The class will go ahead in rainy weather.
Photo Permissions: Please let the facilitator know at the start of the workshop if you would prefer your little one not be include in photos taken on the day (photos to be used for promotional purposes only).
