EcoArt Panel: Tai Kelly and Sam Mayne hosted by Christina Bunney

A presentation led by Boorloo artists Tai Kelly and Sam Mayne of differing mediums, yet exploring similar themes of multispecies relationships and the intersection of ecology and art. This presentation is hosted by Christina Bunney co-founder of Solarvision society.

Christina Bunney (they/she) is an emerging writer, currently a third year student in English Literature & Anthropology at the University of Western Australia. Their writing is focused on the entanglement of ecological relationality. First published in Pelican 97.3 edition and have performed poems at Rabble & Pigface bookstore.

Sam Mayne is a writer and researcher on Wadjuk Boodjar. Her work explores subjectivity, queer embodiment and multispecies kinship in the Anthropocene, with a focus on how Weird, speculative and horror fictions might respond to human exceptionalism and suggest new forms of ethics and justice in the wake of the Sixth Mass Extinction. Her creative and critical works have been published nationally and internationally, appearing in Westerly, ISLE, Gothic Studies, Antipodes,  Midnight Sun's Strangely Enough and elsewhere. 

Tai Kelly is an installation artist whose practice extends across drawing and sound. She investigates interspecies communication through material experimentation, using mediums that are non-traditional and at times living. Informed by her background in electronic music production and circuit building, she constructs responsive systems that reimagine how sound operates as a mode of exchange between species. Her work aims to entangle human and non-human worlds, revealing speculative languages that emerge through ritual to form kinship with unfamiliar forms of intelligence.

Presentation will also feature a reading by another emerging writer & UWA student, Maggie Mee.
