Event description

Join the Sustainable Living Festival, the Transitions Film Festival, and the Goethe-Institut for a free live screening of the feature film ‘Ecocide’ at RMIT’s iconic Capitol Theatre in Melbourne’s CBD.

Set in the fictional world of 2034, Ecocide is a psychological and philosophical thriller that puts Germany on trial for its insufficient action on preventing climate chaos.

After the third storm tide in a row, the headquarters of the International Court of Justice has been evacuated.

In a provisional interim building in Berlin, climate change and the ongoing catastrophe becomes the subject of legal proceedings.

Two lawyers represent 31 countries of the global South, which are doomed to destruction without the support of the international community. They raise questions of responsibility, demand compensation and a right of nature and integrity in order to ensure their own survival.

The court must decide whether German leadership is to be held accountable for their failure to protect the climate – and thus set a precedent for climate justice globally.

Hosted by The Sustainable Living Festival, screening as part of The Transitions Film Festival (Feb 18 – March 13)

This film has been exempt from classification and is restricted to people over 15 years. People under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
