Is there a cost to attend?

No, this event is free for Veterans and their families, proudly supported by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, for Veterans Health Week.

Do I need to stay for the whole thing?

No, not at all. You can come for all, or part of the day.

Is it wheelchair accessible?

Yes, all sessions will be wheelchair accessible. There is a little section near the creek which has some exposed tree roots.

Are the activities suitable for children?

Yes, all activities are suitable for children over the age of 5. The water-bug discovery is very family friendly, Children will need to be supervised at all times.

Weather-appropriate clothing. We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle, binoculars' for the bird walk and a camera or smartphone.

What happens if it rains?

Nature doesn't stop for a bit of rain! Frogs are often more active in damp conditions. However, if extreme weather is forecast, we will contact all registered attendees via the email used during checkout to provide updates or rescheduling information.

Description

EcoConnect: Veterans in Nature is a relaxed, family-friendly afternoon designed to support veterans and their families to slow down, reconnect with nature, and spend time together outdoors.

Led by an experienced ECOllaboration educator, the session includes a gentle forest walk focused on listening for birds and slowing the body and mind. Relax with a shared light afternoon tea. Participants may also encounter local wildlife, including frogs, as part of the experience. There is an optional activities for children, who can explore the local creek for water bugs.

This is a flexible, drop-in style event. Participants are welcome to arrive late, leave early, or take part in only the activities that suit them. There is no pressure to stay for the full session, and all activities are optional.

This small-group event forms part of Veterans’ Health Week: Connect, Move, Nourish, Thrive.
