Event description

The Centre for Health Economics (CHE) offers regular short courses.

These courses aim to increase knowledge of health economics and health economic methods, particularly in their application to the Australian health care system. Our two short courses in June 2025 courses are designed to be completed together.  

A discount is available for participants who purchase both the Economics of Primary Care, and the Economics of Mixed Health Systems in a single transaction.

Economics of Primary Care

Location and Time: 

Monash College, Tuesday 10 June 9.45am-4.30pm

Description: 

Our Economics of Primary Care course introduces participants to evidence on the key economic issues facing primary care, including the role and impact of primary care in health systems, the effects of different financing and payment models on primary care, and the economics of the primary care workforce.

The course will explain key economic concepts and equip participants with an up-to-date understanding of the relevant economic evidence. Participants will be guided through worked examples demonstrating how and why economics can be applied to improve policy and practice.

Economics of Mixed Health Systems

Location and Time: 

Monash College, Wednesday 11 June 9.45am- 5pm

Description:

The Economics of Mixed Health Systems short course introduces participants to the economic principles underlying the interactions between public and private healthcare sectors, public and private financing, physician dual practice, hospital competition, and the implications of this public-private mix on health system outcomes.

Discounted Bundles for Attending Both Courses:

When purchasing tickets in sets of 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 each ticket is discounted to $800. These bundles are designed for attendees participating in both courses:

  • 4 tickets = 2 people attending both days

  • 6 tickets = 3 people attending both days

  • 8 tickets = 4 people attending both days

  • 10 tickets = 5 people attending both days

  • 12 tickets = 6 people attending both days

Standard Pricing:

  • $850 each for a set of 2 tickets (1 person attending both courses)

  • $950 each for a single ticket (1 person attending one course only)
