Engaging with Younger Generations

50 years from now, what will your church congregation look like?  Hopefully it will be filled with adults who are today's young people and their children. Growing our younger generations is key to seeing flourishing churches of the future.

The vision we share is that ALL churches across our union would be flourishing churches who are making disciples and transforming Victoria. But the BUV also has a bold 50 year vision to double the number of churches in Victoria to reach our growing population. With ageing congregations being a reality for many Baptist Churches across our union, it is vital that we start to prioritise and engage with younger generations in our congregations and communities to see the churches of our future flourish.

What can a pastor do to address their ageing congregation? What steps can a pastor take to increase their awareness of the needs and concerns of people in younger generations? These questions need urgent answers.

This EDGE 10:10 is aimed at helping pastors increase their awareness and develop strategies to help their congregations engage with younger generations. If you have very few young people, or want to more meaningfully connect with those  in your church this could be just the day for you!

Rev Kimberly Smith, BUV Generations and Emerging Leaders Pastor, has been helping pastors and their congregations engage younger people in churches for many years. Our team will offer insights that will surprise, challenge and encourage you, and help you identify some things that you can do immediately as well as suggest longer term strategies.
