Event Details
Date: Wednesday, 5 November 2025
Time: 2:45pm to 4:15pm
Location: Napier G04 Lecture Theatre, Napier Building

In this timely and critical lecture, Professor Leon Tikly - Director of the Perivoli Research Centre at the University of Bristol, UNESCO Chair in Transforming Knowledge and Research for Just and Sustainable Futures, Fellow of the British Academy and the Academy of Social Sciences - revisits his influential work, Education and the New Imperialism. He reflects on its arguments two decades on, offering new insights into how education is being reshaped within today’s increasingly fractured and contested global order. A leading scholar in post-colonial and decolonial studies and comparative and international education, Professor Tikly brings a globally recognised perspective to this urgent conversation.

Following the keynote, Associate Professor Prachi Srivastava will moderate an in-depth discussion with Professor Tikly, drawing on curated analytical questions to explore the (im)possibilities of positioning education as a force for transformation and ‘audacious hope’. The event will conclude with an open forum, inviting engagement and questions from the audience.

This event is of significant scholarly and public interest, and we warmly welcome your attendance at what promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking afternoon.
