Mental health in Victorian schools - information session

The Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System emphasised the crucial role schools play in fostering positive mental health and wellbeing. 

In response to the Commission's recommendations, the Victorian government has invested in a range of evidence-based initiatives to support student mental health, enhance wellbeing, and improve student outcomes across the state. Current initiatives include 

VCOSS, in collaboration with the Department of Education, is hosting an online briefing to provide insights into the mental health reform landscape in schools. 

The session will offer an overview and update on the implementation of key initiatives, discuss early insights related to children and young people's mental health, and address questions about the suite of reforms.

This session will be hosted by VCOSS CEO Juanita Pope.

Department of Education speakers include:

  • Claire Tobin (Wellbeing Health and Engagement Division)
  • Deb Maher (Student Mental Health Branch)
  • Kerrie Ekinsmyth (Inclusive Education Professional Practice)

This session will only cover the Department of Education's mental health system reforms in schools. Reforms by other departments will not be discussed.
