Event description

Climate Network meeting: Launch of the Equity in climate adaptation report

Join VCOSS for the launch of the Equity in climate adaptation report. The research project behind this report sought to understand the capacity of Victorians who are experiencing poverty and disadvantage to adapt to the growing impacts of climate change. It found that Victorians’ capacity to adapt mirrors the structural drivers of inequity, meaning those with the fewest financial resources are also those with the least adaptive capacity. Climate change is driving many of the pressures that limit people’s adaptive capacity.

However, there is hope: the community services sector provides critical support for people and communities to adapt to climate change and its myriad impacts.

Come along to hear more about the report’s findings, how climate change is impacting people on the ground, and how the community services sector is responding.

Our speakers will include:

·         Tricia Quibell, CEO of Primary Care Connect

·         Edgar Caballero, Sustainability and Education Coordinator at Banksia Gardens Community Services

·         Teresa Carney, Regional Manager: Strategy, Partnerships and Programs at Women’s Health Goulburn North East

The report launch will take place from 10:30-11:30am, with optional breakout discussions from 11:30am-12pm.

There will be an opportunity for facilitated discussion through breakout rooms at the end of this meeting to reflect on the report and identify areas for collaboration around the issues presented. However, you are more than welcome to come along only for the launch.

VCOSS’ Climate Network for Community Organisations aims to build capacity within the Victorian community services sector around climate change response.
