Location: South Australian Museum

Details: Calling all educators! It's International Museum's Day and we're shining a light on the amazing contributions that women are making to science and museums. You're invited to a special professional development event at the South Australian Museum with Dr Elizabeth Reed.

Dr Reed is a lecturer and researcher in Palaeontology at the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Adelaide and a research scientist in Palaeontology at the South Australian Museum. She specialises in Quaternary cave deposits, notably in the south east region of South Australia. A leading expert in her field, Dr Reed studies the effects of climate change on animal life to help answer questions about how lost biodiversity irretrievably impacts the world we live in.

Join Dr Reed and her team of female post graduate students for a special evening event to learn more about their research in different palaeontology areas and make connections in the four different Museum fossil galleries to the Australian curriculum. We will also explore pathways for female students into science and particularly palaeontology research during a series of mini talks and Q&A forum.

Spend time in the galleries with experts and then join us for mini talks and a forum with light refreshments provided.

  • 4:30pm-4:40pm – Meet the Museum's education team in the Museum's main foyer and visit the Her Story exhibition.
  • 4:45pm-5:30pm – Level 3 gallery tour with researchers
  • 5:30pm–5:55pm - Refreshments and ‘wander’ in the galleries
  • 6:00pm-7:00pm - Mini talks and Q&A forum
  • 7:00pm - Event concludes

Her Story: Inspiring Women in STEM
Dr Reed is a featured scientist in the South Australian Museum's Her Story series, which celebrates amazing South Australian women who are blazing their own trails and inspiring, encouraging and motivating the next generation of young women to follow their dreams and pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

This series is made possible with support from the Hon. Dr Diana Laidlaw AM.
